The white Jesus worshiped by the majority of white evangelicals in America today is a misconstruction away from everything Jesus taught and represented. This false idol stems from the church's racist history where white settlers could not relate to, and refused to worship, someone who more closely resembled the ones they were holding and mistreating as slaves. When lust for control, power, wealth and superiority is projected onto God the reflection is that of white Jesus. White Jesus is merely a representation of everything the white evangelical church desires when the church SHOULD be a representation of the biblical Jesus.

Worshiping Jesus
But not following
Any of his teachings

You always see yourself
As the Samaritan.

All the hurt in this world.

You've sanitized our history
And rewrote it in your favor
To preserve a narrative
Where you're worthy

Lacking humility you looked in the mirror and you started chiseling.

Now you worship something that looks a lot more like you.
Now you worship something that wants the same things you do.
